August 1997 to January 2006

1997-2004 The Project has supported and cared for 7 old age pensioners on low incomes and provided a wheel chair for an 96-year-old lady.

12 students have been assisted with A level fees including books and travel.

One young man obtained a B.Engineering Hons. degree and two are still at University.

A Day Care Centre for about 36 four-year-old children is supported. A dining room was built on to the premises and the kitchen and toilets refurbished.

7 really needy families receive support.

3 young people are assisted with Special Needs learning.

A Centre for Special Education is supported.

A young man with special needs is helped within the family.

2 young lads with serious eye conditions have been checked and provided with glasses.

A hearing aid has transformed the life of a 13-year-old boy.

A little girl with serious asthma is receiving medical attention and is provided with a puffer.

A physically handicapped child has been given a baby walker.

14 families are given regular support and 8 families receive help every few months.

3 homes for Elders receive funds.

1 home for mentally and physically handicapped women and children receive funds and needed materials.

2 estate schools have been given footballs, crickets & badminton equipment, musical instruments for a band, stage curtains, maps, a school bell, a wall clock computer chairs and a printer.
Achievements

4 crèches have baby walkers, mats, chairs and tables, educational toys. One has a new water tank and one, linoleum. All receive milk and biscuits regularly. All crèches have been painted and one has been fenced in for safety. Mattresses and blankets have been provided.

10 families have been helped with major home improvements. Wells have been dug and water installed. Electricity has been provided for one home.

Home industries have been encouraged for market gardening, a three-wheeler service, a small shop, a catering service and a cycle repair unit.

4 new Singer sewing machines were given to ladies and a sewing guild set up

Over 300 refugee children are fed in 7 feeding centres.

120 orphans are cared for in two care homes.

3 Pastors receive gifts for community work, providing water, helping with cultivation and caring for children in remote areas.

A whole village in a jungle area was given new clothes, 70 women, 65 men and 50 children.

5 sports centres were set up to encourage lads of different creeds to mix together.

Since the end of Dec 2004 the tsunami struck and immediate relief has been sent out to Galle, Trincomalee, Kallar and Akkraipattu.

12 permanent homes have been renovated or built.

2 care homes are under construction.

Many families have been supplied with tools, sewing machines, bicycles, handcarts, carpentry and wood work equipment, boat repair machines to start again.
